At Garland Law Offices, P.A., we provide a range of elder law and estate planning services for clients reaching their twilight years. We help clients with a variety of estate planning and other elder law matters, including Medicaid planning, asset protection and estate administration. We are seeking a social worker to join our team of Elder Care Coordinators.

Our Elder Care Coordinators are social workers with geriatric experience who specializes in assisting older people and their families to attain the highest quality of life given their circumstances, and essentially helps the family with non -legal aspects of their situation and care needs.

An Elder Care Coordinator:

  • Helps clients and families identify care problems and assists in solving them.
  • Assists families in identifying and arranging in-home help or other services.
  • Coordinates with medical and health providers.
  • Reviews medical issues and offer referrals to other geriatric specialists to provide appropriate care while conserving financial resources.
  • Provides support, guidance, and advocacy during a crisis.
  • Helps with coordinating transfer and transportation of an older person to or from a retirement complex, assisted care living facility, or nursing home.
  • Provides education.
  • Offers counseling and support.
We’re searching for someone who has 3-5 years’ experience as a social worker specializing in geriatrics. Our ideal candidate has a strong sense of care and compassion for others, has exceptional phone skills, is professional in actions, speech and dress, and lives locally.

This position calls for approximately 40 hours per week but does not require frequent nights and weekends, though there may be occasions when a night or weekend visit may be needed to service the client and family.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

Client Relations:

  • Serves as advocate and experienced eldercare professional on the Legal Team.
  • Provides client care assessments to identify parameters of care and capacity.
  • Interfaces with the family and clients by making visits and communicating frequently (during the pandemic less in person and more via Zoom or phone).
  • Assists family to gather and sort important documents necessary for Medicaid and other planning purposes along with legal team.
  • In general, acts as a “client representative” within the law firm, and as a “law firm” representative to the client and family.
  • Counsels family on care issues and concerns.
  • Translates the “legal-speak” and “long term care speak” to client/family.
  • Advises legal and administrative team on current, changing, and predicted issues for the family.
Community Relations & Marketing:

  • Represents the law firm to facilities and healthcare community by visiting regularly (during pandemic more via Zoom and other methods). Creates positive relationships with management staff for purposes of mutual referrals.
  • Is knowledgeable about care options in the community.
  • Makes regular visits to staff of professional organizations.
  • Participates in professional meetings.
  • Presents law firm services to professionals and potential clients.
  • Contributes information and articles to newsletter and website.
  • Manages aspects of databases for newsletter and mailings.
  • Helps create CEU programs and gets those programs accredited with the appropriate boards.
Professional Development:

  • Works closely with integrating best practices as appropriate.
  • Represents the firm on boards and committees as appropriate.
  • Participates in local and national organizations
  • Supports the firm in development of firm presentations and materials to local organizations, as well as client presentations and in-service presentations.

You must be a licensed social worker to be considered for this position.

Salary is commensurate with experience
